I hated this song when I first heard it in that movie. I was boggled by the fact that I was always singing “Be Prepared” and everyone loved “Hakuna Matata” so much. It was annoying and the fact that once it got in your head and wouldn’t leave made me despise it more.
It is an enjoyable feeling for me.
Just hear me out on this… Think about it, the Germans thought the Jews could not feel pain, that they were at their disposal to use for the bettering of their country. They abused them and ran tests on them and laughed at them and slaughtered them for their own benefit. Am I the only one who sees the parallel? The meat industry, animal testing, circuses… Wars had to be fought to liberate the Jewish people, just like laws and radical action will have to be taken to free the animals that feel pain and seek happiness just as we do. If our exploiting of them isn’t a massive worldwide holocaust, then I don’t know what is. Yes I am comparing mice and cats and monkeys to humans, because the lesson of it all is, it doesn’t matter our appearance or our language, in our ability to feel pain and suffer we are all the same. And once people can overcome their ignorance and see this, we will condemn the acts of slaughter and vivisection just as we did the gassing of the Jews during WWI.
