It bothers me when people sit back and criticize something “in the name of social justice” instead of trying to do something about it. If you don’t see enough art representing disabled people, then draw some or find an artist who does that you feel should be more well-known. If you don’t see enough representation of PoC in fashion/modeling, do a bit of internet research and find someone who is an underappreciated model so you can encourage them to pursue it further. If you think too much writing focuses on heteronormativity or fetishizes non-heterosexual relationships, then write something that doesn’t or support an author that doesn’t.
I understand that people who are white, straight, cisgendered, male, able-bodied, and living with no mental illnesses tend to have the most representation and need to make room for others. But if everyone is busy SAYING they want to see actions taken and content/media created to represent people outside those categories, and nobody is actually DOING it, how on Earth will any of it happen?
Simply looking up related tags on tumblr yields a fair amount of people who are posting this stuff, and you could be spending the time you were using to get upset to instead reblog or recommend inclusive media.
